Discussion:
the "big 3" swear words
(too old to reply)

Hi,

I just watched episode EABF05 "Barting Over". At one point marge says "I'll
even let you swear in the house, everything except the big three".

I presume this refers to 3 taboo swear words. Can anyone enlighten me as to
what these are (using asterisks where necessary to avoid causing offence)
and whether "big three" is a well known term?

Here in the UK, I think f**k and c**t are the obvious two candidates (the
latter almost never appearing on TV). possibly w**ker would be in there as
well but that obviously wouldn't be the case for the US.

And for the record, I just pulled out the 3 of Carlin's 7 that were least
likely to be heard on FOX on the closest thing they have to a "family"
night...

Motherfucker doesn't count, that's just a variation of "fuck" 'cause it
has fuck in it. Like "shithead" is a variation on shit.

I would imagine them to be f**k, s**t and p**s. The f-word's gotta be one of
them...

I've misplaced my list of words you can't say on television...

Wanker is definitly not on the US taboo list.

F*ck
S*it*

Are the two primary "taboo" words.

I really have no idea what the other word is, as, being Canadian,
realisitcally, you can say whatever you like on our television networks...
we're quite liberal with regards to censorship.

So if I say:

F**k, I am not causing offence but if I say:

Fuck, I am causing offence?

What a weird world we live in.

Why would anyone object to hearing shot, funk, and cult? All three
have been used on the show.
